Elsie is Two Months Old

Another month has flown by! Seriously, every day just melts into the next. One day it's Monday and I swear the next it's Friday! I'm afraid if I blink I'll miss something. Elsie is coming out of her newborn stage. Which means she's staring at as and interacting for longer periods. She really loves to do this. I can already tell how social she will be. She get's upset if she can't see somebody when she's wide awake.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this yet, but she smiles a lot more than I remember Janen smiling. However, Janen was already "talking" a lot. Elsie is not as vocal as Janen was. Which is obviously still normal. Janen has always been advanced in her speech and language so it's hard not to notice the differences.

When Elsie was a few days old her left eye's tear duct clogged. Well about 2 weeks ago the other eye's tear duct decided to follow suit. We are constantly wiping goop out of her eyes. Because if we don't and it dries, it's much harder to wipe off. The first couple of weeks the skin around the eye is sensitive to being wiped often so that's why her right eye looks like that. But she's still beautiful!

Still loved by her sister. Janen is helping me teach Elsie to talk by cooing at her. "oh, Elsie! Pretty baby girl. A-boo. A-boo. A-boo."  I love it!

I had high hopes that Elsie would be a much better sleeper than Janen was. Unfortunately, she is not much better. She sleeps a little longer than Janen did at this age, but not by much. If we're lucky, we'll get one 4 hour stretch out of her and then she has to be up for an hour or two and  then sleep for another 2 or 3. That's more doable than what she did to us on saturday and sunday night. Up every 2 hours! That's pretty much how Janen was almost every night for the first 3 months. I still have hope that she will be better because we are going to be more stern when she gets to the age where we can really sleep train her and let her cry it out. I also think once we are in our house, I won't feel guilty for letting her cry for longer periods of time (if it comes down to that).

Elsie has preferred sitting up lately, but not by being propped up. She either wants us to hold her straight up on our laps or she even enjoys sitting in the bumbo. Janen hated the bumbo for months and would arch her back. Elsie just wobbles her head for stability and smiles at us.

Since Elsie has so much more hair than Janen did, it's more noticeable when her hair falls out. The hair on the top of her head has always been more thin than the rest so now that hair is falling out, it's even more noticeable. Her hair likes to stick out in funny places. I especially think she reminds me of a baby orangutan after she's had a bath and her hair sticks up on end.

I think that's about it for this month. Excited for her to gain more head control this next month and be able to lift her entire head and part of her chest off the floor. Janen is so excited to be able to play with her more and can't wait until she's more sturdy and mobile.

  1. I can't believe she's already 2 months. The time just flies by with these babies! She looks so much like Janen in these pics, it's so darling. What cute sisters.

So, it's probable that you already have had this suggestion, but just in case you haven't, I wanted to recommend the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." I know it's totally probable that you've read every book out there, but on the off-chance you HAVEN'T heard of it, I"ll just throw it out there. It's what I've used with Clara (who was not a good sleeper until about 6 months when I made her cry-it-out). And it's actually saying a lot of what you're saying: let her cry it out at around 4-6 months. And it WILL be easier once you're in a house. I used to be so paranoid we were driving our neighbors crazy, and now I never have to worry about it. Anyway, you sound like you're holding up well with two demanding children! And your daughters are SO CUTE!
