"I wanna do it" and ponytails

Janen has been in the "I wanna do it" stage lately. Sometimes it's easy to oblige certain tasks when my hands are full or when I'm not on a time crunch. Other times it gives me anxiety. Now-a-days I get really nervous taking Janen to the park if I'm taking her alone. With a growing belly and waning energy I'm afraid that she'll muscle out of my grip and attempt to do something daring. So for the past week or two we've been going to the park to play on the warmer days as soon as daddy gets home and dinners in the oven cooking. Lucky for us, all we have to do is walk down 4 flights of stairs and down a little path and there's a park!

In this video you'll see Janen climbing up those circle steps with huge gaps in-between. She insisted on doing it herself and told us that "it's not scary anymore". You also get to see a glimpse of her shape-recognizing skills. :)

In this next video, Janen demonstrated some fearlessness. It practically gave me a heart attack when she just pointed her toe out to walk across these monkey bars. James got her before she could biff it and she insisted on walking across to the other side. I think going to gymnastics for the past few weeks has built up her confidence in her physical skills or something cause she just goes for it without really asking for help anymore.

And can you believe a year ago Janen looked like this?

Her little peach fuzz head!
And now I can finally stick it in a pony tail! With a little help from some hairspray of course!

I have been waiting for so long to do this!! She has lots of new baby hair coming in so maybe this time next year (or sooner) I'll finally be able to french braid it! I'm so excited!!

I hope my second gets my genes for hair. I had as much hair as Janen has now when I was 8 months
. But even if she doesn't that's ok. I just love having hair to play with! And someday I hope Janen will want to braid MY hair. I'm looking forward to that! :)

  1. It is scary when they get to the "I want to do it by myself" stage. Haylee has always been more cautious than lil John... but it still makes me super nervous whenever they are doing something new at the park.

Janen has gotten so big... She is a beautiful little girl.

  3. Look at her go! I'm scared for when James gets to that stage because he's so stinkin' fearless already! I can't believe how big she has gotten just since the last time I saw you guys. :)
