Yesterday Janen and I were sitting at the table having our PB & J sandwiches. As often as the food choice allows for, I let her sit at the table in a regular chair. Such a simple thing brings her so much happiness. She was in a really good mood and we sang the Peanut Butter and Jelly Song together. Then she looped her arm in mind, put her head on my shoulder and said, "You're the best mommy ever." I just about melted. One cause it was so incredibly sweet and sincere. Two, because no one (to my knowledge) has ever said that exact phrase to her. I tell her she's the best girl ever or the best Janen ever and somehow she figured out how to make the sentence her own.
She's growing up so fast and it's such an incredible thing to behold. It's amazing to me how easy going and amiable she is when we just take the time to explain something and especially when we let her explore her independence. We try to teach her patience and to let her know that she doesn't need to be demanding (tantrum, crying, yelling) to get her way and she catches on beautifully. Not to say there aren't ever hard moments or days, but she gets it more times than not and I'm so grateful for that! She also has incredible manners. It's now getting to the point where about 70% of the time she says please and thank you without us prompting her too. Unless she doesn't really know the person cause she gets shy with new faces. And sometimes she'll remind us that we need to tell her, 'you're welcome'. It's cute.
Every Sunday when James or I pick her up from nursery, the leaders are always going on and on about what a good and well-mannered child Janen is. She doesn't make a fuss when the other kids take a toy or steal her goldfish snacks. In fact she'll try to give them more of her snacks. And she's always willing to share a toy with a friend. I hope to always hear that Janen is friendly to everyone she comes in contact with. One of the nursery leaders joked and said I should have 10 more kids if they were all to turn out like Janen. Too bad I could NEVER handle that many pregnancies. But I do hope all my children have sweet and friendly dispositions.
She is so grown up! I can't even believe she's the same little girl in the picture on your side bar! (PS my heart melted with the story. :))
